DRY JANUARY - How's it going? Having fun?

Does it have to be so EVERYTHING OR NOTHING?

Maybe it's time for something different?

For anyone who doesn’t know, Dry January is a campaign created by Alcohol Change UK.

January is a month where people choose to abstain totally from Alcohol.

There are some huge health benefits including better sleep, more energy and enhanced mental charity.

At Drug Club we support Dry January.  It’s a fantastic campaign, yet some people feel ambivalent about it, do you?

Drug Club understand why people may not want to take part.

There's the risk of failure if you fall off the wagon and then you must discount all the days you’ve had sober.

There are also concerns about enjoying alcohol and wanting to indulge when a social event arises and you want to feel the buzz, despite how much you have already reduced.

Some also think it's a campaign that can encourage abstinence, only for people to forget it all in February and not think about personal or collective drinking for the rest of the year.

Shouldn't we be a bit more conscious about our drinking throughout the year, instead of just January?

At Drug Club we want to involve all sorts of drinkers and support you to drink a little less.

You might have missed Dry January or want to prolong your sobriety, so why don’t you consider Drug Club's very own...

MOIST and moderate season.

Maybe you can consider drinking a bit less than you did before, have a MOIST time with alcohol.  Instead of setting yourselves challenges to get drunk, set personal drinking challenges to cut down on your drinking, whilst staying in control and choosing the way that is best for you.

Some Drug clubbers are getting involved in having a Moist Winter by only drinking one evening a week, or by allowing themselves three evenings in the month where they can drink alcohol. This puts the pressure off having full abstinence but also allows people the benefits of cutting down alcohol. These benefits include weight loss, saving money, lower blood pressure, better sleep, and more energy.

We also feel that for those who like alcohol, it increases the desired effects if you drink less generally, and therefore more appreciative of it as a substance.

We could also say that this gets people into better personal habits for the year ahead and get more control of their drinking.

Some Tips from Drug Club for having yourself a MOIST WINTER

- Plan out your Wet Days -

Put in the Calendar when you may want to have alcohol or have a set number of days you can do this in the month.

- Budget for your Moist Season -

Perhaps give yourself a personal budget for drinking alcohol, and stick to this, so your moist month doesn't get too wet.

- Don't take part in rounds -

As much as social drinkers love a round they don't pay for, sometimes taking part can hook you into a heavy night. Perhaps just have pay for your own, so you don't feel obliged to get caught up in the heavier session.

- Try Other Things-

Sometimes the banality of life, or lack of novel experiences with friends can keep us drinking more than we want to be. Perhaps have a look at other activities and experiences you can have instead of heading down to the pub.

The pub will always be there after.

- Other people's drinking, other people's business / Your Sesh, Your Decision

If you're carrying on as normal, and someone in your life is doing Dry Jan, or Drug Club's Moist Season, and you want to encourage them to keep up with your drinking, have a pause and reflect. What's that about? Be respectful and mindful of people's decisions, even if you want to have a messy one.

At Drug Club We support those who are doing Dry January, but also those who want to cut down in their own way. Join us for the moist season. Have a drier January and a less messy year.  Test your limits, see what works for you, be playful, and have a great time!

Love from Drug Club
