It's high time for drugs education to be done differently

Drug use isn't safe and it never will be, but we believe an education can make a big difference in reducing some of the more serious harms associated with using drugs.

As educators, consultants and people with lived experience we believe when it comes to learning about drugs, it’s high time for things to be done differently and that is why Drug Club are committed to providing safe, fun, inclusive spaces to learn. Spaces where individuals are free to explore their perceptions of drugs – even the positive ones!

We accept that drug use is not entirely preventable. Instead of relying on outdated, polarising messages like “Just Say No ” we support harm reduction, say “ Yes ” to safer user practises and compassionate, unbiased, practical advice to help people navigate the risks associated with both legal and non- legal drugs.

Our Approach

Lived experience goes a long way in connecting with users and engaging with communities left out of traditional support services . As people with experience of drug use and as drugs and alcohol practitioners we pass on the message a bit differently. If drug use isn’t boring to users then drugs education shouldn’t be buzzkill.

Drawing on practitioner insights, lived experience and evidence- based approaches to behavioural change we design impactful learning experiences that move beyond just knowing the facts to being interested in safer using practices. How dangerous drugs are- is to an extent in a substance- users hands.

Skilled facilitators and performance artists, Drug Club The Show and our workshop series Drug Club Uncut are immersive experiences at the intersection of the arts and education, using real stories of drug use and risk-taking with spaces for participants to question, reflect and engage with drug use, drug culture and harm reduction.
